Should You Choose a File Sharing Program Over a Legal Music Site?

Many people have questions about using a file sharing program for downloading music online.

Furthermore, most people looking to get music online are confused about the differences between legal music download sites vs file sharing programs. And finally, many people are unsure about the safety and legalities of using p2p file-sharing software.

So if this sounds like you, you're not alone! In searching the web, you've probably seen hundreds of peer to peer networks available to choose from. But some free p2p networks give you much more than you've bargained for, including installing dangerous software on your computer.

The truth is that not all p2p programs are of the same quality.

It's true, and most free file sharing programs, like the 'original kazaa' peer to peer program, will install potentially harmful spyware programs, or worse, on your pc.

These annoying and even dangerous software programs are purposely "bundled-in" with your free file sharing program. Why?

Large media companies pay shareware developers money to put banner ads and "spyware software" in their products. This is how a software developer gets money for giving away their product for free.

But beware...

The "extra" software in a p2p file sharing program can cause a variety of problems.

For example, the original kazaa was loaded with spyware such as "bonzi buddy", "Cydoor" and "Brilliant Digital" (considered worse than spyware).

Spyware, and other dangerous software, can wreck havoc on your computer by causing these problems:

  • Increased Internet security, virus and hacker risks.

  • Computer system slowness.

  • Entire pc crashes.

  • Privacy risks due to software designed to steal statistical data about you and what you're doing on the net.

So because of increased privacy and security risks, more people than ever are now demanding "clean" p2p programs - even if it means paying a little cash for it.

Why pay for a file sharing program?

Simply put, the software developers of p2p networks deserve to make money for the product they created. And seeing that most people are extremely concerned about Internet privacy and security risks, software developers created clean p2p networks that you can download for a small fee.

This way you'll get safer file sharing and the p2p software developer still earns money for their product...a true win-win solution.

Should You Choose a File Sharing Program Over a Legal Music Download Site?

This is a good question. Years ago, when Napster first introduced file sharing to the Internet, there were no legal music download sites to even choose from.

But how times have changed. Now there are plenty of quality legal sites for you to choose from that are also very affordable. Also, the risks of using file sharing programs has increased greatly over the years.

The RIAA now sues individuals who break copy-right infringement laws and it's very serious business. Thousands of average people have already been subpoenaed and the RIAA is targeting more unsuspecting Americans who have possibly shared and/or downloaded copyrighted material.

So you need to decide if the risks of using a p2p application outweighs what you'll get in return.

More music consumers are using legal music download sites ...

According to a recent survey by Entertainment Media Research, about 35% of music consumers now download tracks legally via the Internet.

The survey cites fear of prosecution, Internet viruses, and inferior quality as reasons why people choose to use legal music download sites, like new napster and the Real Rhapsody network, instead of downloading music using a p2p file sharing program.
